Accounting Manager (CPA) - Job Description
Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Accounting Manager (CPA) to lead core accounting functions, guide a high-performing team, and strengthen financial operations. This role focuses on quality oversight-not doing everything yourself. You will step into a well-structured environment with clear processes, modern systems, and strong leadership support.
The ideal candidate is a California-licensed CPA with deep technical accounting knowledge, strong communication skills, and a passion for improving processes and delivering exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Oversight & Review
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Monitor compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
Technical Accounting & Issue Resolution
- Research, analyze, and resolve complex accounting issues
- Provide guidance on accounting treatments, reporting impacts, and best practices
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency
- Strengthen internal controls and support audit-readiness
- Implement best practices across accounting operations
Technology & Systems
- Leverage modern, cloud-based accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage Intacct)
- Champion automation and digital tools to improve accuracy and efficiency
- Stay current on accounting technologies and emerging tools
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, finance, and leadership teams
- Support an advisory-focused, client-service-oriented environment
Qualifications
Required
- Active California CPA license
- 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong GAAP knowledge and experience with financial reporting & accounting operations
- Background in public accounting and client service
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
Preferred
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience
- Experience with cloud accounting ecosystems
